Verification & coverage notes

Quality audit over 2026-09-30T06:39:43Z to 2026-10-11T13:07:20Z (270.5 h), anchored on the previous audit record. The re-sweeps and truth inventory were extended back to 2026-09-27T13:08Z, the last full audit, because the partial audits of 09-29 and 09-30 had moved the anchor past a stretch no audit had checked (fixed in v4.20). Full report: docs/audits/2026-10-11-quality-audit.md.

Soundness. Eleven truth passes verified 196 entries against about 890 fetched primary URLs. 35 of 196 clean.

  • Window (133 entries): 35 clean, 84 with imprecisions only, 14 with factual errors. The worst were Kaspersky PAYLOAD (encryption not in the source) and the SonicWall SMA1000 headline (vendor-named exploitation called new).
  • Legacy batch L1: 20 of 20 wrong.
  • Consolidation batches D1 and D2: 40 of 43 wrong.

Every defect found real was fixed through a changelog record on its entry; the declined findings are listed in the report with reasons. 117 existing entries carry a record from this fire. 27 duplicates were folded into 21 survivors with tools/fold_entries.py, and every CVE-sharing pair left without a link now carries a reference except one pair of legacy entries held for re-verification (43 unlinked at start). The legacy queue stands at 408 pending.

Completeness. Six re-sweeps confirmed 89 findings as covered and returned 79 items for decision.

  • Recovered as a new entry: NeedyMantis (Microsoft, 2026-09-28; three fires dropped it on a misapplied recency reason).
  • Recovered as update records: GitLab's 19.0.9 and 18.11.12 backports, and CCB's public proof of concept for NetScaler CVE-2026-88773.
  • Correctly droppable, with reasons in the report: the unexploited vendor bundles (Cisco Nexus, HPE, IBM, Splunk, Veeam, ILIAS, WatchGuard), law-enforcement actions, incidents below the floor, claims, and statistics.
  • KEV: 10 additions since 2026-09-30, all COVERED, no COVERED-STALE and no RANSOMWARE row.

Systemic. Four fixes ship in v4.20:

  • the window anchor;
  • the duplicate guard;
  • the stale page-check backfill clause;
  • two false-positive classes in the cited-page gate: Mastodon meta text, and image streams in the PDF reader, with a new test.

The page checks re-run from 2026-08-29 clear every citation-cve check. The one quote-literal warning it raised, Bitget's page edited after publication, is cleared: the evidence quote now follows the page's current wording.

Operator signals:

  • The 10-01 intel fire and the 10-04 audit left no record. The intel gap self-healed; the audit gap is recommendation 3.
  • The model-generation baseline is in systemic finding 6.

Sources. 13 records were changed: seven feed recipes and six notes (a later fire had already switched eset to its feed). The health sweep found 237 of 238 relevant; threatpost is stale, demoted and archive-only.

Registry. Added malware:needymantis and actor:storm-3069, with the DAEMON Tools incident attributed-to Storm-3069. Four summaries were corrected, and tools/sync_products.py added 20 product entities and moved 11 product first_seen dates earlier.

Calibration: run (first October report). The bars hold and no prompt edit ships. The September/October inconsistency on unexploited critical bundles is recommendation 1.

Warning sweep. check_run.py --all started at 1 warning and 23 acknowledged. The 2026-09-30T0639Z audit's 100.8-hour duration is acknowledged as settled history (an interactive session paused on API usage limits). No other ledger change.

Watch items: six closed (duplicate consolidation, the polyfill indicator, KEV RANSOMWARE rows, top-of-entry drift, NCSC-CH dead links, the three unreadable sources), six open.

Essential coverage: not applicable to an audit fire. The re-sweeps' source ledgers (25, 32, 26, 26, 27 and 36 sources, all attempted) are in work/2026-10-11T1307Z-audit/findings.G*.yaml.

Coverage gaps:

  • Feed caps bound how far back one fire sees: bsi-de, cccs-alerts, CERT-FR avis, NCSC-NL and msft-secblog recent.
  • Unreadable on every rung: presseportal.de (Polizei Hamburg), three community.citrix.com posts, F5 K000161019 and BSI WID-SEC-2026-1536.

ATT&CK pin: tools/attack_data.py --check reports local v19.2 equal to upstream latest v19.2. No drift.

Clock: local and network time agreed at fire start (2026-10-11T13:07:20Z, skew 0 s).

Verification: eight cold passes of cti-verification, each split into parallel slices that walked the claim ledger; every pass gave every claim in its scope a verdict. Truth plus editorial findings fell from 144 in iteration 1 to 11 in iteration 8, and no pass returned CLEAN, so the fire publishes on the fail-open rule at the eight-iteration cap with a residual of 11 (advisory findings are not counted). Iteration 8's small, sourced findings were fixed after the pass and are not re-verified: the ShieldBreak fix date, the Swiss motion's hedge, the SonicWall attribution, two Check Point citations, the SimpleHelp loader wording, the CHANGELOG internal count, the fold table and the ACSC address. The residual left for the next audit is low-confidence editorial work on earlier fires' text, among it the missing labelled lines on the RoguePlanet and SAP August entries and the Austrian NIS2 entry's relevance.

Pause: the fire stopped on an API session limit after iteration 3 (2026-10-11T17:21Z) and resumed on 2026-10-19. Before iteration 4 it was re-based on the current main; later fires' records stayed out of scope, and two records dated 2026-10-19 (Citrix, Check Point) follow newer records on main so the changelogs stay append-only. completed and duration_seconds span the pause.
