Do-now tasks recorded on the entries about PHP2Shell and Fragnesia rooting of PAN-OS management interfaces (October 2026), newest first. Check the date before acting on an older one.

  • Immediate action: Two unauthenticated remote-code-execution flaws in PHP itself are on CISA's exploited list since 2026-10-26, honeypots recorded working code execution and Palo Alto reports attacks on internet-exposed PAN-OS management interfaces, fixed builds (8.5.12, 8.4.27, 8.3.36, 8.2.35) have been out since 2026-10-21, and public proofs of concept circulate. Update PHP, not the CMS, on every internet-facing server and container image, restart PHP-FPM, Apache and all long-running workers, and confirm the running version, because distribution packages can keep the old version string. Isolate anything that cannot be updated from public networks, and check web roots, logs, crashes and unexpected processes, since an update does not remove an attacker who is already in.
    2026-10-21CVE-2026-109618 +1
  • Update the PHP runtime, not the CMS or its plugins, on every internet-facing server and container image to 8.5.12, 8.4.27, 8.3.36 or 8.2.35 or to your distribution's patched package, restart PHP-FPM, Apache and every long-running worker, rebuild images, and confirm the running version, because a distribution backport can keep the old version string; isolate any application that cannot be updated from public networks until it is.
    2026-10-21CVE-2026-109618 +1
  • After updating, set session.upload_progress.enabled=0 on every PHP host and keep it there until PHP's next regular bugfix release: CVE-2026-115560, which the October releases do not fix, needs session upload progress to be enabled.
    2026-10-21CVE-2026-109618 +1
  • List every appliance and management server whose web interface embeds PHP (firewalls, network access control and security consoles), take each interface off the internet and install its vendor's PHP2Shell fix, because Dream Research reports Palo Alto Networks PAN-OS firewalls rooted through an exposed management interface.
    2026-10-21CVE-2026-109618 +1
  • Take the management interface of every PA-Series and VM-Series firewall and Panorama off the internet now by restricting it to a jump box or trusted internal addresses, because Palo Alto reports active exploitation against internet-exposed management interfaces, and install the hotfix for your maintenance release, which Palo Alto's table lists for every line from 10.2.7 to 12.2.4 (11.2.10-h17 adds the Brotli fix).
    2026-10-22CVE-2026-109618 +1
3 older action items
  • Rotate the directory bind account, HA replication keys, certificate private keys and device authentication keys of every PAN-OS firewall and Panorama that was reachable from the internet while unpatched and shows a PHP web shell or a tunnel, because the chain Dream Research recovered harvested exactly those from rooted firewalls, and the hotfix does not remove a web shell or tunnel already in place.
    2026-10-22CVE-2026-109618 +1
  • Patch CVE-2026-46300 on every Linux host that runs PHP or other internet-facing code, then on multi-tenant hosts, container nodes and CI runners: apply the distribution kernel update and reboot; until then, where IPsec is not in use, block and unload the esp4, esp6 and rxrpc modules (this breaks IPsec), and drop the page cache so a file already modified in memory reloads from disk.
    2026-05-15CVE-2026-46300
  • On any PHP web host, appliance or management server that was reachable and unpatched for the PHP2Shell flaws, look for PHP files in web-reachable directories that nobody deployed, an outbound SSH session from the host that a systemd service or an rc.local entry keeps up, and password-spray bursts against Active Directory from the host's address, because Dream Research reports a chain of the two flaws that did exactly that.

Initial Access TA0001

T1190Exploit Public-Facing Application×3

Adversaries may attempt to exploit a weakness in an Internet-facing host or system to initially access a network. The weakness in the system can be a software bug, a temporary glitch, or a misconfiguration.

Execution TA0002

T1059Command and Scripting Interpreter×1

Adversaries may abuse command and script interpreters to execute commands, scripts, or binaries. These interfaces and languages provide ways of interacting with computer systems and are a common feature across many different platforms. Most systems come with some built-in command-line interface and scripting capabilities, for example, macOS and Linux distributions include some flavor of Unix Shell while Windows installations include the Windows Command Shell and PowerShell.

T1059.004Command and Scripting Interpreter: Unix Shell×1

Adversaries may abuse Unix shell commands and scripts for execution. Unix shells are the primary command prompt on Linux, macOS, and ESXi systems, though many variations of the Unix shell exist (e.g. sh, ash, bash, zsh, etc.) depending on the specific OS or distribution. Unix shells can control every aspect of a system, with certain commands requiring elevated privileges.

Persistence TA0003

T1037.004Boot or Logon Initialization Scripts: RC Scripts×1

Adversaries may establish persistence by modifying RC scripts, which are executed during a Unix-like system’s startup. These files allow system administrators to map and start custom services at startup for different run levels. RC scripts require root privileges to modify.

T1505.003Server Software Component: Web Shell×3

Adversaries may backdoor web servers with web shells to establish persistent access to systems. A Web shell is a Web script that is placed on an openly accessible Web server to allow an adversary to access the Web server as a gateway into a network. A Web shell may provide a set of functions to execute or a command-line interface on the system that hosts the Web server.

T1543.002Create or Modify System Process: Systemd Service×1

Adversaries may create or modify systemd services to repeatedly execute malicious payloads as part of persistence. Systemd is a system and service manager commonly used for managing background daemon processes (also known as services) and other system resources. Systemd is the default initialization (init) system on many Linux distributions replacing legacy init systems, including SysVinit and Upstart, while remaining backwards compatible.

T1068Exploitation for Privilege Escalation×3

Adversaries may exploit software vulnerabilities in an attempt to elevate privileges. Exploitation of a software vulnerability occurs when an adversary takes advantage of a programming error in a program, service, or within the operating system software or kernel itself to execute adversary-controlled code. Security constructs such as permission levels will often hinder access to information and use of certain techniques, so adversaries will likely need to perform privilege escalation to include use of software exploitation to circumvent those restrictions.

T1611Escape to Host×1

Adversaries may break out of a container or virtualized environment to gain access to the underlying host. This can allow an adversary access to other containerized or virtualized resources from the host level or to the host itself. In principle, containerized / virtualized resources should provide a clear separation of application functionality and be isolated from the host environment.

Credential Access TA0006

T1110.003Brute Force: Password Spraying×1

Adversaries may use a single or small list of commonly used passwords against many different accounts to attempt to acquire valid account credentials. Password spraying uses one password (e.g. 'Password01'), or a small list of commonly used passwords, that may match the complexity policy of the domain. Logins are attempted with that password against many different accounts on a network to avoid account lockouts that would normally occur when brute forcing a single account with many passwords.

T1552.001Unsecured Credentials: Credentials In Files×1

Adversaries may search local file systems and remote file shares for files containing insecurely stored credentials. These can be files created by users to store their own credentials, shared credential stores for a group of individuals, configuration files containing passwords for a system or service, or source code/binary files containing embedded passwords.

T1552.004Unsecured Credentials: Private Keys×1

Adversaries may search for private key certificate files on compromised systems for insecurely stored credentials. Private cryptographic keys and certificates are used for authentication, encryption/decryption, and digital signatures. Common key and certificate file extensions include: .key, .pgp, .gpg, .ppk., .p12, .pem, .pfx, .cer, .p7b, .asc.

Discovery TA0007

T1087.002Account Discovery: Domain Account×1

Adversaries may attempt to get a listing of domain accounts. This information can help adversaries determine which domain accounts exist to aid in follow-on behavior such as targeting specific accounts which possess particular privileges.

Command and Control TA0011

T1090Proxy×1

Adversaries may use a connection proxy to direct network traffic between systems or act as an intermediary for network communications to a command and control server to avoid direct connections to their infrastructure. Many tools exist that enable traffic redirection through proxies or port redirection, including HTRAN, ZXProxy, and ZXPortMap. Adversaries use these types of proxies to manage command and control communications, reduce the number of simultaneous outbound network connections, provide resiliency in the face of connection loss, or to ride over existing trusted communications paths between victims to avoid suspicion. Adversaries may chain together multiple proxies to further disguise the source of malicious traffic.

Evidence: 2026-10-22/pan-os-panorama-php2shell-mgmt-interface-no-fixed-release · ATT&CK page ↗

T1105Ingress Tool Transfer×1

Adversaries may transfer tools or other files from an external system into a compromised environment. Tools or files may be copied from an external adversary-controlled system to the victim network through the command and control channel or through alternate protocols such as ftp. Once present, adversaries may also transfer/spread tools between victim devices within a compromised environment (i.e. Lateral Tool Transfer).

Evidence: 2026-10-21/php-critical-release-pre-announced-cve-2026-109618-109619 · ATT&CK page ↗

T1572Protocol Tunneling×1

Adversaries may tunnel network communications to and from a victim system within a separate protocol to avoid detection/network filtering and/or enable access to otherwise unreachable systems. Tunneling involves explicitly encapsulating a protocol within another. This behavior may conceal malicious traffic by blending in with existing traffic and/or provide an outer layer of encryption (similar to a VPN). Tunneling could also enable routing of network packets that would otherwise not reach their intended destination, such as SMB, RDP, or other traffic that would be filtered by network appliances or not routed over the Internet.

CRITICALCVE-2026-109618 +1exploitedupdatedNATOA1

CVE-2026-109618 / CVE-2026-109619, PHP (PHP2Shell): two unauthenticated remote-code-execution flaws in the runtime, fixed on 2026-10-21 in 8.5.12, 8.4.27, 8.3.36 and 8.2.35, with attack traffic already observed and no upstream release for 8.1 and older (CVSS 4.0 9.2)

The PHP project released PHP 8.5.12, 8.4.27, 8.3.36 and 8.2.35 on 2026-10-21 to fix two critical vulnerabilities that can allow unauthenticated remote code execution, CVE-2026-109618 and CVE-2026-109619, both CVSS 4.0 9.2, and urges all PHP users to update immediately (PHP, 2026-10-21; PHP, 2026-10-20). CVE-2026-109618 is memory corruption when PHP handles an out-of-memory error: it aborts the request with longjmp() while internal request data is only partly initialised, and request cleanup then treats the invalid data as valid (PHP, 2026-10-21). CVE-2026-109619 is stale global state: request-owned state survives a fatal error after its memory is freed, and a later request on the same worker uses it (PHP, 2026-10-21). Every PHP installation serving web requests is at risk, including PHP-FPM, Apache with mod_php, php-cgi, FrankenPHP and LiteSpeed; the project rates mod_php highest, with a demonstrated exploit where an unauthenticated request can trigger the attack before any application code runs (PHP, 2026-10-21). The confirmed impact is unauthenticated code execution as the web worker account, validated against mod_php with default settings, and for the second flaw against both mod_php and FPM through session upload progress, which is on by default and needs no session_start() call (PHP, 2026-10-21; PHP, 2026-10-21). The advisory for the second flaw also lists heap use-after-free and memory disclosure among the confirmed impacts (PHP, 2026-10-21), and Sansec says the leaked worker memory can hold passwords, session tokens, API keys and TLS private keys from other requests, and files the upload-progress memory disclosure under CVE-2026-109618 where the PHP advisories list it under CVE-2026-109619 (Sansec, 2026-10-21).

The fixed branches are 8.2 to 8.5; PHP 8.1 and older no longer receive updates, and the project published minimal source backports for 7.4, 8.0 and 8.1 for people who build from source, while distributions and LTS vendors received the patches in advance (PHP, 2026-10-21). Cloudflare says all web servers running PHP 5.4 or later are affected (Cloudflare, 2026-10-21). The fix is in the runtime, so updating WordPress, a plugin or a theme does not change exposure (Wordfence, 2026-10-20). Products that embed PHP are affected through it: Palo Alto Networks lists PAN-OS 12.2, 12.1, 11.2, 11.1 and 10.2 as affected, with all twenty hotfixes released, and notes that the issue applies to PAN-OS software on PA-Series and VM-Series firewalls and on Panorama (Palo Alto Networks, 2026-10-30), and ENISA, the Commission, CERT-EU, Europol EC3 and the CSIRTs network point to NCSC-NL's repository for software that bundles PHP (ENISA, 2026-10-21).

CISA added both flaws to its Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog on 2026-10-26 and revised its alert the same day; the alert names no actor and does not say how CISA learned of the exploitation (CISA, 2026-10-26; CISA KEV, 2026-10-26). Code execution was documented in a honeypot report by Adel Karimi of Perplexity dated 2026-10-24: on three disposable targets running PHP 8.4.26 under single-worker Apache mod_php, 35 execution-stage requests were each followed by a shell started directly by an Apache worker, in a four-stage multipart chain (memory pressure, memory disclosure, more memory pressure, an execution request adjusted to the leaked layout); the chain is consistent with CVE-2026-109618, the records do not establish a CVE-2026-109619 path and no second-stage download was observed (Karimi, 2026-10-24; SecurityWeek, 2026-10-26; BleepingComputer, 2026-10-26). Earlier reports describe scanning and attempts: Cloudflare saw attack traffic against its customers while the flaws were still leaked (Cloudflare, 2026-10-21), watchTowr's honeypots recorded exploitation on 2026-10-21 (watchTowr, 2026-10-21), and VulnCheck's canary hosts recorded scanning from 08:37 UTC that day (VulnCheck, 2026-10-21). VulnCheck says it holds a working exploit for CVE-2026-109618 that, as of 2026-10-26, supports mod_php on PHP 8.2.28 to 8.2.34, 8.3.22 to 8.3.35, 8.4.10 to 8.4.26 and 8.5.10 to 8.5.11 with default settings and display_errors off, and WordPress on default Docker installs (VulnCheck, 2026-10-26). Palo Alto Networks' advisory for both flaws now states that active exploitation has been observed targeting its management interface exposed to the internet, after a copy of 2026-10-27 said very limited exploitation, and names no victim or actor (Palo Alto Networks, 2026-10-28; Palo Alto Networks, 2026-10-27); Dream Research's recovered artifacts, described next, add a detailed account of a production compromise through these CVEs, while Unit 42 retracted on 2026-10-25 its update of 2026-10-23 that had linked an attack on a European government agency to these flaws and says it is unable to confirm that the initial access is associated with them (Unit 42, 2026-10-25), and CrowdStrike, Wordfence and Sophos reported no successful exploitation (CrowdStrike, 2026-10-23; Wordfence, 2026-10-22; Sophos, 2026-10-22). Dream Research describes the chain it recovered: a custom PHP2Shell build tailored to the management web server of Palo Alto Networks PAN-OS (PHP 8.0.30), combined with the Linux kernel flaw CVE-2026-46300, gave unauthenticated root on 24 internet-facing firewalls and led, through the second of two firewalls of a US government-affiliated organization (the first crashed), to an outbound SSH tunnel, the rooting of the organization's firewall management server and a password-spraying attack on its Active Directory, and CISA's entry for the kernel flaw says the same chaining (Dream Research, 2026-10-29; CISA KEV, 2026-10-28). In Switzerland, SRF reported on 2026-10-26 that TCS Camping is warning about 15,000 customers in connection with the PHP flaw after a data theft at its booking-system supplier Camping.Care, and Blick, citing SRF, writes that the attackers used the two flaws; neither names a CVE (SRF, 2026-10-26; Blick, 2026-10-26).

PHP posted an informational advisory on 2026-10-23 for a third code-execution path, CVE-2026-115560, that the October releases do not fix: it needs an application that sets session.serialize_handler to php_binary or php_serialize, switches it to php with ini_set() before session_start(), and leaves session upload progress enabled; PHP calls it an unlikely vector, issues no emergency release, suggests session.upload_progress.enabled=0 until the next regular bugfix release and will publish the full advisory then (PHP, 2026-10-23). PHP has not stated affected versions or a severity score for CVE-2026-115560, and no exploitation is reported (The Hacker News, 2026-10-23).

Assessments of how easy exploitation is diverge. Sansec says an attack needs specific knowledge of the target server and specific conditions on it, that nobody has shown a single request that works against any vulnerable server, as there was for Log4Shell and Shellshock, that a researcher who tested the public proofs of concept found they do not work against a default PHP installation, and that mass exploitation is therefore less likely than it first expected, while it advises updating anyway (Sansec, 2026-10-21). CrowdStrike expects no single universal exploit but says a reliable one is feasible against a specific deployment profile, such as a fixed Docker image, because an attacker can calibrate offsets and heap grooming in advance (CrowdStrike, 2026-10-23), and the SANS Internet Storm Center, reading the public proofs of concept, finds a universal, reliable one-click exploit quite difficult (SANS ISC, 2026-10-23). Red Hat rates CVE-2026-109618 Important (CVSS 3.1 8.1 with high attack complexity, against 9.8 at NVD), says reliable exploitation requires precise heap manipulation and timing, and says its standard Red Hat Enterprise Linux deployments use PHP-FPM, whose workers exit on early initialization failures, so code execution is difficult in practice and typically needs non-default behavior such as parsing a second request body during script execution (Red Hat, 2026-10-21). That sits against VulnCheck's weaponized exploit above, and the advice of the PHP project, BACS, CERT-EU and ENISA to update is unchanged. Vendors of products that embed PHP report as follows: Citrix lists the NetScaler management GUI on every supported version (NetScaler Product Security, 2026-10-22); Cisco lists Expressway, Ultra-Reliable Wireless Backhaul, Duo Access Gateway and ISE Portal Builder, with fixes at 15.5.21, 26.2.1.9 (November 2026) and 3.2.0 (Cisco PSIRT, 2026-10-30); Fortinet keeps only FortiDDoS, FortiSOAR and FortiSOAR PaaS under investigation (Fortinet PSIRT, 2026-10-26); Splunk lists its products as unaffected or remedied (Splunk, 2026-10-26); Tenable's patch SC-202610.2 updates the bundled PHP in Security Center and Enclave Security to 8.2.35 (Tenable, 2026-10-23; Tenable, 2026-10-23); Siemens lists RUGGEDCOM APE1808 devices running PAN-OS as affected (Siemens ProductCERT, 2026-10-23); and WatchGuard says none of its products are affected (WatchGuard PSIRT, 2026-10-21).

Triage: an unexplained outage of a public-sector, university or fire-service website on 2026-10-21 or 2026-10-22 is more likely a precautionary take-down than a denial-of-service attack where the operator says so, as Basel-Stadt, Publica and the Lodur provider each did; the discriminators are the operator's statement and restoration after the update (Canton of Basel-Stadt, 2026-10-21; Publica, 2026-10-21; nau.ch, 2026-10-21).

The fixed releases shipped on 2026-10-21 between 13:30 and 14:00 UTC, depending on the source, together with the technical advisories, so the earlier statement that no fix existed no longer holds (CERT-EU, 2026-10-21; ENISA, 2026-10-21; Sansec, 2026-10-21). ENISA, the European Commission, CERT-EU, Europol EC3 and the CSIRTs network advise organisations to identify their PHP-based applications, coordinate with hosting and service providers, apply the update to internet-facing systems first, and isolate exposed applications from public networks where that is not possible (ENISA, 2026-10-21). BACS published its warning the same day, telling operators to check embedded and internal PHP installations as well as public sites, to restart long-running PHP processes and rebuild containers, to verify the running version, and, where an immediate update is impossible, to consider disconnecting critical applications from the internet (BACS, 2026-10-21). BACS told RTS it knows of no reliable, confirmed substitute for the updates and that the interim measures give no guaranteed full protection (RTS, 2026-10-21).

Attack traffic was reported on the day: Cloudflare saw it against its customers while the flaws were still leaked, watchTowr's honeypots recorded exploitation, and VulnCheck's canary hosts logged scanning from 08:37 UTC and at least one unsuccessful web-shell attempt through a session file, while VulnCheck says it holds a working exploit for CVE-2026-109618 that succeeds on x86-64 with ASLR enabled; no source reports a confirmed compromise (Cloudflare, 2026-10-21; watchTowr, 2026-10-21; VulnCheck, 2026-10-21). Palo Alto Networks confirmed that every PAN-OS and Panorama release is affected through the management web interface, with no fixed release yet (Palo Alto Networks, 2026-10-21).

Public-sector sites went offline as a precaution, mostly on the evening of 2026-10-21. The canton of Basel-Stadt activated its crisis staff and shut down every PHP-run cantonal website with no restoration time given, while stating that no security-relevant incident had been registered (Canton of Basel-Stadt, 2026-10-21). The Ticino cantonal administration temporarily disabled some online services, the website of the University of Geneva was unreachable, and the EPFL site displayed a notice that its pages were currently unreachable, although nau.ch says it still worked (nau.ch, 2026-10-21); RTS lists the EPFL and University of Geneva sites as temporarily suspended (RTS, 2026-10-21). Several Neuchâtel canton and city sites were unreachable without an official statement; Arcinfo presumes a link to the PHP flaw, which the state had not confirmed (RTS, 2026-10-21). Lodur, the platform many Swiss fire brigades use to manage their fire brigades and alarm groups, was out of service because its provider took its servers offline as a precaution: users could neither read stored data nor edit alarm groups, though the Valais cantonal fire office said this does not necessarily mean the alarm-triggering systems are down (nau.ch, 2026-10-21; RTS, 2026-10-21). Publica took its website offline on the afternoon of 2026-10-21 as a precaution, says it has closed the vulnerabilities with security updates and was back online that evening, and states the outage is unrelated to the cyberattack on its software supplier (Publica, 2026-10-21). Dutch authorities took DigiD, MijnOverheid, Overheid.nl, TweedeKamer.nl and the tax authority offline for a time, and most were back by that evening (Security.nl, 2026-10-21); RTS reports that the site of the Paris police prefecture was also suspended (RTS, 2026-10-21). Basel-Stadt said it would report on progress on the morning of 2026-10-22, and no restoration status had been published as of the early morning of 2026-10-22 UTC.

BACS told Keystone-SDA and SRF on 2026-10-22 that no attack in Switzerland attributable to the two flaws is known to it, while stressing that unrecognised or unreported incidents cannot be excluded and that it has no reliable figures on affected websites, shops and internal applications (SRF, 2026-10-22; watson.ch, 2026-10-22). It also said that PHP-based applications of the federal administration were affected, that the responsible bodies were told to update, and that it has no complete overview of the update status (watson.ch, 2026-10-22; Inside IT, 2026-10-22).

The shutdowns were large and mostly short. The Basel host Cyon took all of its more than 100,000 customer websites offline for some hours and says everything has run again since the morning of 2026-10-22; the University of Geneva's site was still unreachable that afternoon, and Basel-Stadt still had pages offline at midday and says it found no data outflow (SRF, 2026-10-22). Neuchâtel disabled all PHP-based sites, ne.ch and many commune pages among them, its IT department installed the fix, and the EPFL gave its members access to its services by VPN while its site stayed down (Inside IT, 2026-10-22). Risikomonitor's live view counts 576,549 checked Swiss web servers, 540,169 already patched and 20,231 (3.5 %) still affected, with the PHP version hidden on the other 16,149 (Inside IT, 2026-10-22).

In the United Kingdom, a minister told the House of Lords on 2026-10-22 that 32 government services were unavailable and four partly unavailable, largely from precautionary measures while updates and mitigations were applied, and that the government knows of no confirmed compromise of central government systems, an assessment she extended to the wider public sector (UKAuthority, 2026-10-22; The Register, 2026-10-22). The Register adds that government sites in Germany, France, Belgium, Finland and the Netherlands were also taken offline as a precaution and that the NCSC sent 50,000 warnings (The Register, 2026-10-22).

Attack activity began before the release. Inside IT, citing a post by Cloudflare's chief executive, reports millions of attack attempts, the first at 07:43 UTC on 2026-10-21, more than six hours before the release, and relays that AWS threat intelligence recorded an exploit attempt against a honeypot on 2026-10-17 from a commercial anonymisation network, proofs of concept and attempts by several actors from 2026-10-21, and advises an operator who cannot exclude a compromise to start the investigation at least from 2026-10-17; whether the attempts would have succeeded on real systems is open (Inside IT, 2026-10-22). The Register likewise reports that AWS says attackers were exploiting the flaws four days before disclosure (The Register, 2026-10-22).

Palo Alto Networks' Unit 42 added to its brief on 2026-10-23 a report that linked an attack on a European government agency to these flaws and retracted that update on 2026-10-25; the update of 2026-10-26 below carries the retraction (Unit 42, 2026-10-25).

Other vendors report no successful exploitation. CrowdStrike has not observed any in the wild or in its honeypots and expects a reliable exploit only against a specific deployment profile, such as a fixed Docker image (CrowdStrike, 2026-10-23); Wordfence knows of no compromise among the more than 74,000 attempts its firewall intercepted (Wordfence, 2026-10-22); and Sophos corrected on 2026-10-22 its earlier report of successful exploitation to scanning and a small number of failed attempts, one of them a blocked attempt to deliver a likely Mirai-derived botnet variant (Sophos, 2026-10-22). VulnCheck's exploit now covers PHP 8.4.10 to 8.4.26 and 8.5.10 and 8.5.11 on AMD64 and ARM64 with default settings and display_errors off under mod_php, and WordPress on default Docker installs, as of 5:30 PM ET on 2026-10-23 (VulnCheck, 2026-10-21). Neither flaw is in CISA's KEV catalog as of version 2026.10.23 (CISA KEV, 2026-10-23).

PHP posted an informational advisory on 2026-10-23 for a third code-execution path, CVE-2026-115560, that the October releases do not fix: it needs an application that sets session.serialize_handler to php_binary or php_serialize, switches it to php with ini_set() before session_start(), and leaves session upload progress enabled (PHP, 2026-10-23). PHP calls it an unlikely vector, issues no emergency release, suggests session.upload_progress.enabled=0 until the next regular bugfix release, says a host that applied that setting from the 2026-10-21 advisory should keep it, and will publish the full advisory with the next release (PHP, 2026-10-23). PHP has not stated affected versions or a severity score, and no exploitation is reported (The Hacker News, 2026-10-23).

Vendor statuses moved. Cisco's advisory, revised on 2026-10-23, now describes a workaround for Expressway in its bug record, keeps the fixed release 15.5.21 undated, lists Ultra-Reliable Wireless Backhaul with a fix in 27.1.1 (February 2027), exploitable there only by an authenticated administrator and with a workaround described, and lists Duo Access Gateway with fixed release 3.2.0 (Cisco PSIRT, 2026-10-23). Splunk now lists only Smartlook as under investigation (Splunk, 2026-10-23). Palo Alto Networks' advisory now lists WF-500 and WF-500-B as unaffected, a correction its timeline dates 2026-10-23, its table no longer distinguishes Panorama, and a note says the issue applies to PAN-OS software on PA-Series and VM-Series firewalls and on Panorama; the PAN-OS hotfix dates of 2026-10-26 to 2026-10-30 are unchanged (Palo Alto Networks, 2026-10-24).

Tenable's Security Center (versions 6.6.0, 6.7.2, 6.8.0 and 6.9.1) and Enclave Security (1.7.0, 1.8.0 and 1.9.1) bundle PHP, and patch SC-202610.2 updates the bundled PHP to 8.2.35 (Tenable, 2026-10-23; Tenable, 2026-10-23). Siemens lists RUGGEDCOM APE1808 application-hosting devices running Palo Alto Networks PAN-OS 10.2, 11.1, 11.2, 12.1 and 12.2 as affected by the two flaws and gives patch and update information only through customer support (Siemens ProductCERT, 2026-10-23).

ReliaQuest says it independently reproduced exploitation of CVE-2026-109618 in controlled labs, with code execution only where the exploit's prerequisites were already present, and that it has not observed successful exploitation in customer environments (ReliaQuest, 2026-10-22). The sequence it saw in its logs is a POST that returns HTTP 500, PHP memory exhaustion reported "in Unknown on line 0", heap corruption and an abort of the Apache worker that handled the request within seconds, which it reads as a stronger indication when the events involve the same process (ReliaQuest, 2026-10-22).

Updaterun 2026-10-26T0256Z-intelbodyevidenceimmediate_actionsourcessourcing_notesummarytechniques

Palo Alto Networks' Unit 42 retracted on 2026-10-25 the update of 2026-10-23 in which it had reported post-exploitation by agentic attack platforms at a European government entity. Its brief now says that what its researchers saw was an attack against a European government agency executed in the context of a vulnerable PHP application, that this led them to believe it was exploitation of these flaws, and that it is unable to confirm that the initial access is associated with the specific PHP2Shell CVEs (Unit 42, 2026-10-25). The observations of the retracted update, including the command-batch markers and the Active Directory activity, are no longer part of the brief. The brief still recommends assessing exposure and patching immediately (Unit 42, 2026-10-25).

What remains documented is scanning and attack attempts, reported by Cloudflare, watchTowr, VulnCheck and others, and VulnCheck's working exploit for specific PHP builds; CrowdStrike, Sophos and Wordfence report no successful exploitation, and no source tied a named CVE to a production compromise. The Hacker News article of 2026-10-25 relays the retracted account and carries no correction (The Hacker News, 2026-10-25).

CISA added both flaws to its Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog on 2026-10-26 and updated its alert the same day, which still tells operators to patch internet-facing systems first, to take PHP-based systems offline where they cannot be patched or run PHP 8.1 or earlier, and to monitor for PHP worker processes launching shells or downloading tools (CISA, 2026-10-26; CISA KEV, 2026-10-26). The listing follows a honeypot report by Adel Karimi of Perplexity dated 2026-10-24, relayed by SecurityWeek and BleepingComputer on 2026-10-26, that documents the first successful code execution: 35 execution-stage requests against three honeypots running PHP 8.4.26 under single-worker mod_php, each followed by a shell started directly by an Apache worker, consistent with CVE-2026-109618 and not establishing a separate CVE-2026-109619 path (Karimi, 2026-10-24; SecurityWeek, 2026-10-26; BleepingComputer, 2026-10-26). It is honeypot evidence: no second-stage download was observed, Karimi says it does not measure exploit reliability on other worker counts, PHP builds or applications, and, as of 2026-10-27, no source ties a named CVE to a production compromise; Unit 42's retraction of 2026-10-25 stands. Expel's Marcus Hutchins calls it by far the highest-quality confirmation of in-the-wild exploitation he has seen (BleepingComputer, 2026-10-26).

VulnCheck's page, updated as of 2026-10-26, extends its working exploit to mod_php on PHP 8.2.28 to 8.2.34 and 8.3.22 to 8.3.35 as well as 8.4.10 to 8.4.26 and 8.5.10 to 8.5.11 (VulnCheck, 2026-10-26). In Switzerland, SRF reports on 2026-10-26 that TCS Camping is warning about 15,000 customers because data was stolen at its booking-system supplier Camping.Care in connection with the PHP flaw: names, telephone numbers and reservation numbers were used in fraudulent WhatsApp messages, and TCS says account and IBAN data were not affected; neither SRF nor TCS names a CVE or the entry point (SRF, 2026-10-26).

Palo Alto Networks' advisory for both flaws now states that active exploitation has been observed targeting the Palo Alto Networks management interface exposed to the internet, and its severity is Critical with urgency Highest (Palo Alto Networks, 2026-10-28). A copy of the page taken on 2026-10-27 at 17:10 UTC said instead that very limited exploitation had been observed (Palo Alto Networks, 2026-10-27). The advisory names no victim, actor or post-exploitation behaviour and does not say which flaw was used. It is a vendor statement about its own product, Unit 42's retraction of 2026-10-25 stands (Palo Alto Networks Unit 42, 2026-10-25), and Palo Alto's remaining PAN-OS hotfixes are due by 2026-10-30 (Palo Alto Networks, 2026-10-28).

CISA's catalog entry of 2026-10-28 for the Linux kernel flaw CVE-2026-46300 says it can be chained with CVE-2026-109618 and CVE-2026-109619 to implant PHP webshells and run commands as root (CISA KEV, 2026-10-28). Dream Research reports a chain that takes these flaws to root on appliances: a custom, non-public PHP2Shell build for the management web server of one large vendor's firewall software, which runs PHP 8.0.30 with a high memory limit, gave code execution as the nobody user, and the kernel flaw lifted it to root in one HTTP request in under 15 minutes (Dream Research, 2026-10-27). Dream found the build tuned to eleven firmware versions, nine exploitable, with offsets from the vendor's own PHP library, the deployment-specific calibration CrowdStrike expects a reliable exploit to need (an inference) (Dream Research, 2026-10-27; CrowdStrike, 2026-10-23). From about 19,000 internet-facing firewalls of that vendor it narrowed to 240, rooted 24 and left a PHP webshell on each, and from the second of two firewalls of a US government-affiliated organization (the first crashed) built a persistent outbound SSH tunnel, rooted the organization's firewall management server through it and began an attack on its Active Directory; Dream could not tell whether that attack succeeded, does not name the vendor, calls the campaign apparently Chinese and AI-assisted and does not attribute it to a named actor (Dream Research, 2026-10-27). The targets were firewalls whose management interfaces were reachable from the internet (Dream Research, 2026-10-27).

Palo Alto Networks' advisory as read on 2026-10-29 lists all PAN-OS hotfixes as released except 11.1.7-h12, due on 2026-10-30 (Palo Alto Networks, 2026-10-29).

GreyNoise's live tracker, last updated 2026-11-01 03:48 UTC, records successful exploitation on its deliberately vulnerable sensors from 2026-10-28, the first when an Apache worker spawned a shell that ran curl, and counts 1,177 confirmed exploitations from five attacker addresses, defined as sessions in which the web server ran operating-system commands (GreyNoise, 2026-11-01). The count is of shell events on sensors, not of compromised servers. The commands recorded on 2026-10-29 include bash reverse shells over /dev/tcp, creation of /var/www/.ssh, queries to the cloud metadata address and downloads of the linPEAS and gitleaks enumeration and secret-scanning tools; secret-scanning runs over /var/www/html and system directories appear in the sessions of 2026-10-31 (GreyNoise, 2026-11-01).

Hunt.io, reading open-directory captures, says shells have been confirmed only on honeypots and sensors, which it names as watchTowr, 0x4D31 and GreyNoise, and that its shared exploit kit has not been seen landing on a live victim, while relaying Dream Research's and Unit 42's account of PAN-OS firewalls rooted in production as the first confirmed production compromises; in one capture an operator who ran the chain against a national government got only a crash, because session files lay outside the webroot, and then broke in with a different bug (Hunt.io, 2026-10-28).

Dream Research updated its report on 2026-10-29 to say that the affected devices run Palo Alto Networks PAN-OS and that the operation rooted 25 PAN-OS firewall and management servers, and Unit 42 says it independently verified the attacker's tooling and confirmed the reported results (Dream Research, 2026-10-29; Unit 42, 2026-10-29). The earlier description of "one unnamed vendor" above is superseded.

HIGHCVE-2026-109618 +1exploitedupdatedNATOA2

CVE-2026-109618 / CVE-2026-109619, Palo Alto Networks PAN-OS and Panorama: the PHP2Shell flaws affect every release below its train's hotfix through the management web interface, and Palo Alto reports active exploitation against internet-exposed management interfaces; all twenty hotfixes are out

Palo Alto Networks' advisory of 2026-10-21 lists PAN-OS 12.2, 12.1, 11.2, 11.1 and 10.2 and Panorama as affected by CVE-2026-109618 and CVE-2026-109619, the unauthenticated PHP remote-code-execution flaws (Palo Alto Networks, 2026-10-21) (PHP, 2026-10-21). Only the management web interface is affected; the GlobalProtect portal and gateway and the captive portal are not (Palo Alto Networks, 2026-10-21).

The advisory says active exploitation has been observed against the management interface exposed to the internet (Palo Alto Networks, 2026-10-28). Dream Research reports that a custom PHP2Shell build for the PAN-OS management web server, chained with the Linux kernel flaw CVE-2026-46300 to turn the web server's unprivileged context into root in one unauthenticated HTTPS request, rooted 25 PAN-OS firewall and management servers in the United States, Japan, Taiwan and South Korea (Dream Research, 2026-10-29). On the second of two firewalls of a US government-affiliated organization (the first crashed) it added a reboot-persistent reverse SSH tunnel and, through it, ran the same chain against the organization's internal firewall management server, decrypted the directory service account's password from the device configuration, enumerated the Active Directory and attempted a password spray and backdoor accounts, which Dream cannot say succeeded (Dream Research, 2026-10-29). Unit 42 says it independently verified the attacker's tooling and results and that customers who applied the available patches are not affected (Unit 42, 2026-10-29); Dream relays that Unit 42 tracks it as CL-UNK-1280, a Chinese-speaking attacker in UTC+8, while Dream names none (Dream Research, 2026-10-29).

All twenty hotfixes are released (Palo Alto Networks, 2026-10-30); its Threat Prevention coverage (Threat IDs 543004, 97622 to 97625 and twenty further IDs between 97643 and 97678) applies only where inbound management traffic is decrypted on a dataplane interface with the certificate replaced and threat prevention enabled (Palo Alto Networks, 2026-10-27).

Current analysis shows no impact of CVE-2026-115560 on PAN-OS (NGFW and Panorama).

This issue will be fixed in the upcoming releases of PAN-OS.

Palo Alto Networks revised its advisory on 2026-10-23: the WildFire appliances WF-500 and WF-500-B are now listed as affected in all versions, and the footnotes say Cortex XCORE (SaaS) was remediated on 2026-10-21 and WildFire Cloud on 2026-10-22 (Palo Alto Networks, 2026-10-23). The advisory now also gives estimated availability dates for hotfix builds of every supported PAN-OS train, from 2026-10-26 (for example 10.2.18-h13, 11.1.16-h4 and 11.2.10-h16) to 2026-10-30, while Panorama and the WildFire appliances remain with no date (Palo Alto Networks, 2026-10-23). Palo Alto still states that it is not aware of malicious exploitation against its products, and the Threat Prevention coverage and the jump-box restriction are unchanged (Palo Alto Networks, 2026-10-23). The advisory names the management web interface only for PAN-OS and does not say which interface of the WildFire appliances is reachable.

Palo Alto Networks' advisory now lists the WildFire appliances WF-500 and WF-500-B, which an earlier revision of 2026-10-23 had listed as affected, as unaffected, a correction its timeline dates 2026-10-23, and the table no longer distinguishes Panorama while a note says the issue applies to PAN-OS software on PA-Series and VM-Series firewalls and on Panorama (virtual and M-Series) and the mitigation text covers PAN-OS and Panorama together (Palo Alto Networks, 2026-10-24). The estimated hotfix dates for PAN-OS, 2026-10-26 to 2026-10-30, the CVSS-B scores of 8.7 and 7.1, and the statement that Palo Alto Networks is not aware of malicious exploitation against its products are unchanged; on 2026-10-24 the advisory added updated threat-signature and content-version details, and the Threat Prevention coverage now lists twenty further Threat IDs, from 97643 to 97678 (Palo Alto Networks, 2026-10-24).

Palo Alto Networks' advisory now records eleven PAN-OS hotfixes as released: 10.2.18-h13, 11.1.16-h4 and 11.2.10-h16 (revision of 2026-10-25), 11.1.4-h38, 11.1.6-h40, 11.1.10-h36 and 11.1.13-h16 (2026-10-26), and 10.2.13-h27, 10.2.16-h12, 12.1.7-h11 and 12.2.4-h1 (2026-10-27) (Palo Alto Networks, 2026-10-27). Nine hotfixes still carry estimated dates from 2026-10-27 to 2026-10-30, among them 12.1.4-h13, 12.1.10-h3 and four 11.2 lines, and the FAQ says 11.2.10-h16 carries only the PHP fix while 11.2.10-h17 carries the PHP and the Brotli fixes (Palo Alto Networks, 2026-10-27). Palo Alto still says it is not aware of malicious exploitation of this issue against its products (Palo Alto Networks, 2026-10-27). CISA added both PHP flaws to its Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog on 2026-10-26, as the PHP flaws themselves rather than as a PAN-OS finding (CISA KEV, 2026-10-26).

Palo Alto Networks' advisory now states that active exploitation has been observed targeting the Palo Alto Networks management interface exposed to the internet (Palo Alto Networks, 2026-10-28). A copy of the page taken on 2026-10-27 at 17:10 UTC said instead that very limited exploitation had been observed (Palo Alto Networks, 2026-10-27); the vendor timeline records no change of wording, and its entries of 2026-10-27 are two removals of hotfix estimated dates and the 16:40 UTC change that raised the severity to Critical and the urgency to Highest (Palo Alto Networks, 2026-10-28). The vendor score is now CVSS-B 9.2 with high impact on confidentiality, integrity and availability when management is reachable from the internet, and 7.7 when it is reachable only from an adjacent network; the earlier text scored availability impact only (8.7) and knew of no exploitation. The advisory names no actor, victim or post-exploitation behaviour. CISA's catalog flags both PHP flaws with forensic triage requirements (CISA KEV, 2026-10-27). The hotfix table has moved on since the previous record: as read on 2026-10-28, fourteen builds are released and six are due by 2026-10-30 (Palo Alto Networks, 2026-10-28).

Dream Research updated its report on 2026-10-29 to say that the affected devices run Palo Alto Networks PAN-OS; the operation it had described with an unnamed vendor rooted 25 PAN-OS firewall and management servers, and Unit 42 says it independently verified the attacker's tooling and confirmed the reported results (Dream Research, 2026-10-29; Unit 42, 2026-10-29). Dream's recovered artifacts show web shells left on 24 firewalls, 22 of them parked with nothing further done, and a boot-persistent tunnel into the internal network of a US government-affiliated organization that it assesses is likely still active (Dream Research, 2026-10-29). Unit 42 says customers who applied the available patches are not affected and that the management interface is not exposed to the internet by default (Unit 42, 2026-10-29). Dream also says the management web server fronts the GlobalProtect portal, which Palo Alto's advisory lists as not affected (Dream Research, 2026-10-29; Palo Alto Networks, 2026-10-30). A device that was exposed and unpatched therefore needs the compromise checks in the Detection line, not only the hotfix.

CVE-2026-46300, Linux kernel: local privilege escalation via xfrm ESP-in-TCP ("Fragnesia"), listed by CISA as exploited and chained with the PHP2Shell flaws to reach root, PoC public

CVE-2026-46300 ("Fragnesia") is a local privilege escalation flaw in the Linux kernel's XFRM ESP-in-TCP subsystem. Improper handling of shared page fragments during skb coalescing lets an unprivileged local user modify read-only file contents in the kernel page cache and gain root (Wiz Research, 2026-05-13). The public exploit uses user and network namespaces to obtain CAP_NET_ADMIN inside an isolated namespace, installs a crafted ESP security association over NETLINK_XFRM and overwrites the start of /usr/bin/su in the page cache only, so the on-disk binary never changes (Wiz Research, 2026-05-13). Dirty Frag discoverer Hyunwoo Kim says the flaw was accidentally activated by the patch for CVE-2026-43284 (Help Net Security, 2026-05-14). William Bowling of Zellic.io found it with the company's AI-agentic auditing tool, and a technical explainer and proof-of-concept exploit are public (Help Net Security, 2026-05-14).

The flaw needs local code execution, so it is the root step of a chain rather than an entry point (Wiz Research, 2026-05-13); CISA's catalog entry says it is chained with the PHP2Shell flaws, which supply the code execution in the web server (CISA KEV, 2026-10-28). Risk is highest on shared Linux hosts, container clusters where the page cache is shared across the host, CI runners and build farms, and cloud services running user code (Help Net Security, 2026-05-14). Ubuntu's default AppArmor restriction on unprivileged user namespaces is a partial mitigation that forces an extra bypass (Wiz Research, 2026-05-13). Microsoft reported no evidence of in-the-wild exploitation at disclosure (Help Net Security, 2026-05-14). At disclosure, AlmaLinux and CloudLinux had released patched kernels (Help Net Security, 2026-05-14).

Triage: unprivileged user namespaces are routine for rootless containers, sandboxed browsers and Flatpak, and IPsec is commonly used for VPNs and site-to-site tunnels (Red Hat RHSB-2026-003, 2026-07-03), so either alone is weak; the exploit's signature is one unprivileged process tree that sets up its own ESP security association inside a fresh network namespace and then runs su (Wiz Research, 2026-05-13).

Three vulnerabilities, collectively known as "Dirty Frag", have been identified in networking subsystems of the Linux kernel, two of which affect Red Hat products.

Red Hat (RHSB-2026-003) 2026-07-03

Red Hat says CVE-2026-43500 doesn't affect its products, while CVE-2026-43284 and CVE-2026-46300 do affect supported Red Hat Enterprise Linux kernels and anything built on them.

Researchers have already published working proof-of-concept exploits for Kubernetes, and Ubuntu spells out the risk of a container escape.

Aikido Security 2026-09-04

This vulnerability can be chained with CVE-2026-109618 and CVE-2026-109619 to implant PHP webshells and run commands as root.

Red Hat rates CVE-2026-46300 CVSS 7.8 (Red Hat Product Security, 2026-05-13). Red Hat's own security bulletin groups it under the collective "Dirty Frag" name alongside CVE-2026-43284 and CVE-2026-43500, labelling it specifically "Fragnesia (skb coalescing via ESP-in-TCP)": "three vulnerabilities, collectively known as 'Dirty Frag', have been identified in networking subsystems of the Linux kernel, two of which affect Red Hat products" (Red Hat RHSB-2026-003, 2026-07-03). Applicability splits per CVE: "Red Hat says CVE-2026-43500 doesn't affect its products, while CVE-2026-43284 and CVE-2026-46300 do affect supported Red Hat Enterprise Linux kernels and anything built on them" (Aikido Security, 2026-09-04). Any RHEL, OpenShift or RHEL CoreOS estate must therefore confirm the CVE-2026-46300 fix specifically, not only the earlier two. For the Dirty Frag family as a whole (CVE-2026-43284, CVE-2026-43500 and CVE-2026-46300), Aikido writes: "Researchers have already published working proof-of-concept exploits for Kubernetes, and Ubuntu spells out the risk of a container escape"; it names no Kubernetes exploit for CVE-2026-46300 itself (Aikido Security, 2026-09-04). Because containers share the host kernel, a compromised workload that can reach the vulnerable code path (governed by seccomp, pod security and user-namespace settings) can escalate to root on the node (Aikido Security, 2026-09-04). As of 2026-09-05, no source stated confirmed in-the-wild exploitation of this specific CVE. Microsoft's previously reported limited in-the-wild activity ("privilege escalation involving 'su'") was itself stated as ambiguous between the "Dirty Frag" family and the separate, earlier "Copy Fail" vulnerability (CVE-2026-31431) (Microsoft Security Blog, 2026-05-08). That is not a distinction between the two Dirty Frag CVEs themselves, and not specific evidence of exploitation for CVE-2026-46300.

Correctionrun 2026-09-30T0639Z-auditsourcesevidencebodysourcing_noteactionsentities

The interim mitigation is corrected. Until the kernel update is deployed, block and unload the esp4, esp6 and rxrpc modules where they are not needed (Wiz Research, 2026-05-13 · Help Net Security, 2026-05-14). Blocking esp4 and esp6 breaks IPsec, and Red Hat's IPsec-preserving alternative is disabling unprivileged user namespaces (Red Hat RHSB-2026-003, 2026-07-03). At disclosure AlmaLinux and CloudLinux had shipped patched kernels (Help Net Security, 2026-05-14). The entry previously named other kernel modules, a CAP_NET_ADMIN restriction, an affected version range and wider distribution patch coverage that its sources do not state, and it wrongly described Dirty Frag discoverer Hyunwoo Kim as a Wiz researcher.

Correctionrun 2026-10-21T0800Z-audittitleheadlinesummarybody

Aikido's statement that working Kubernetes proof-of-concept exploits have been published concerns the Dirty Frag family as a whole, which it defines as CVE-2026-43284, CVE-2026-43500 and CVE-2026-46300, and its link for the container-escape risk is Ubuntu's page for CVE-2026-43284 (Aikido Security, 2026-09-04). No cited source describes a Kubernetes exploit for CVE-2026-46300 itself; its public exploit overwrites /usr/bin/su in the page cache (Help Net Security, 2026-05-14). On a host, that exploit shows as an unprivileged process creating user and network namespaces and installing an ESP security association over NETLINK_XFRM before su starts a root shell (Wiz Research, 2026-05-13).

CISA added CVE-2026-46300 to its Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog on 2026-10-28 and says in the entry that the flaw can be chained with CVE-2026-109618 and CVE-2026-109619 to implant PHP webshells and run commands as root, naming no actor or victim (CISA KEV, 2026-10-28). Dream Research describes a chain of this kind from artifacts its tooling recovered: a custom, non-public PHP2Shell build, tailored to the management web server of one large vendor's firewall software that runs PHP 8.0.30, gives code execution as the nobody user, and the Fragnesia exploit then overwrites /etc/pam.d/su in the page cache so that su root succeeds without a password; Dream says SELinux confines the web server's domain from modifying system files and that the whole chain runs in one HTTP request in under 15 minutes (Dream Research, 2026-10-27). From about 19,000 internet-facing firewalls of that vendor that it found through a search engine, the attacker narrowed to 240 in the United States, Japan, Taiwan and South Korea, rooted 24 and planted a PHP webshell on each; on the second of two firewalls of a US government-affiliated organization (the first crashed) it set up an outbound SSH tunnel kept up by a systemd service and an rc.local entry, rooted the organization's firewall management server through the tunnel, decrypted the LDAP service-account password with root access and sprayed passwords against a domain that had no lockout threshold (Dream Research, 2026-10-27). Dream could not tell whether any of the Active Directory attacks succeeded, does not name the vendor, calls the campaign apparently Chinese and AI-assisted and does not attribute it to a named actor (Dream Research, 2026-10-27).

Dream Research updated its report on 2026-10-29 to say that the firewalls rooted with a custom PHP2Shell build chained to this kernel flaw run Palo Alto Networks PAN-OS, and counts 25 rooted PAN-OS firewall and management servers; Unit 42 says it independently verified the attacker's tooling and confirmed the reported results (Dream Research, 2026-10-29; Unit 42, 2026-10-29). The earlier description above of an unnamed vendor is superseded.
